Hi, I have forum about Google's new email service Gmail. Everyday I'm trying to get outbound links as many as I can . There are many gambling sites, which want to exchange links with me and some of them have good PR. My question is, do the outbound links from non email or internet related sites help my site to rank well on SEs ? Does this have any effect on my PR?
The links that will help you with PR and relevancy to a query (anchor text) are the ones that Google can spider and index. Links in GMail will not assist you with this as Google does not spider or index people's private e-mails. Most links from web sites that Google has indexed will help, but there are ways for webmasters to make links void of SEO value: Using the rel='nofollow' attribute in the href tag Using a script to redirect the link with a 302 Using Javascript or Flash to hide the link There are probably other methods, but those are off the top of my head. Even if a link hides the SEO value, if it is on a good site, you should see some good direct traffic from them.
