Our GoDaddy account hacked!!!!

    We discovered a cracker had hacked our account at GoDaddy, replacing our contact email with his version of it! So he was able to transfer two domain names to his own account.
    Not only, but he has hosted a site connected to the domain names on GoDaddy with a signature “cracked by ****** hacker”!

    I was on the phone with Godaddy for the last hour and a half, from "support" to "abuse" to “the presidents office” and I got nowhere!
    They say to contact Icann and they can't do anything, not even remove the hacked site.
    We received the message below in October:
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    "This email confirms that you have modified information in
    your Account Settings for the following Customer Account:
    ****
    There will be a short duration while your request is pending
    update. During this time, details in your Account Settings
    will be temporarily unavailable."
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    We answered them immediately telling them that we hadn't modified our account, and that we were being hacked.
    We lost our password and all info, and were able to get it back only by giving them our pin number. But by then it was too late.
    If we go through Icann or whatever, our client will be paying to get her name back, while the criminal, just loses what wasn’t his at the beginning.
    I think GoDaddy hasn’t been helpful at all, they were warned by us, we told them not to modify our account details and they did.
    Any idea what we can do?

    If GoDaddy cant do anything ....you should contact the hacker somehow or find out about him

    It's not can't, it's won't. They have the responsibility of protecting their clients domain names. They were immediately informed that we were being hacked and did nothing about it.

    I don't think we should contact the hacker, that way we would be encouraging them.

    it is very taft !

    personally ive lots 6 domains with register.com - the account was hacked - all registration changed - domains unlocked -

    problem is - nobody give a damn when this kind of thins happen ! - register.com behaved exactly like godaddy behave with you !! - - Who are YOU??? we do not know you - just give us your money and piss off !! basically ! :(

    you are completely on your own -

    and the hackers get what they want - = your traffic

    best wishes for your recovery - it can only take 2 or 3 years !!

    We had a similar problem, what happened was the the contact email was an email under a domain that expired, the "hacker" saw in the technical details that email, he saw that the holding domain is available and registered it, thats how he could get a hold of our domain.

    hacking godaddy is not that easy, unless your email password/usual password is the same one as godaddy....

    There should be new laws for this.. Anyone who hacks, cracks or screws with other peoples "things, items, sites, domains, blah blah" should be put to death..
    BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY

    So what could be done about it?

    I think having a separate account for each domain is the only way forwad. Tedious but that'll be a bit safer.

    Or, find a proper registrar that will benefit you in better.

    That would conclude better security, and some other type of support that doesn't suck.

    best thing to do - as mentioned !

    1 domain = 1 account !

    2 domains = 2 accounts !

    that is the best way to keep safe !

    if you get all your accounts hacked - than give up !! :eek:

    You need to make a big deal about it, that is the only way you will get help.

    You need to stress to them that it is your domain and that you didn't push it. Try to gather as much proof as possible, gather whois records of the domain now that it is hacked.

    Keep contacting godaddy, that is the only way.

    email godaddy.they will dispute domain name even if transfered to another registrar...
    **if your whois be true in first time which you made account you dont have worry.

    Sorry to hear about that. I suggest you change your email passwords now as well. Often times, password info is left in your email accounts. It is much more likely that he hacked your email and not the website to begin with.

    lol kids, i cant believe people are still doing this crap, it doesnt make them money if the fame of saying i hacked that worth it..

    Hi there,
    Well our domain has been paid for and would have expired in 2010.
    Also the email password isn't the same.
    We are a small company and it would be difficult to know the email or password.

    The worrying point is that we were sent a message by GoDaddy telling us that our details were being changed per our request. We IMMEDIATELY responded stressing that we hadn't authorized any change and to disregard the request for changes as someone may be hacking our account.
    They answer by telling us that we must email undo@godaddy.
    They said they can't do a thing and told us to contact Icann!

    Do you have documentation of contacting godaddy? If you can prove you tried to dispute the changes, you can prove negligence and sue them for the value of the lost domains, not mention damages and lost traffic. I bet if you served them they would suddenly find a way to help you get your domain names back.
