We have experienced a consistent increase in both visits and earnings until November 13 2008. Since then we have noticed an OVERNIGHT drop in stats: CTR dropped a full point. Clicks cut in half. eCPM down a dollar. These stats come with a continued increase in traffic, now over 125,000 daily (combined) impressions. Our earnings are down by over $1000.00 (USD) monthly with NO changes in content/keywords/ads etc... This was an overnight drop which has not recovered in a month, Also, our Adbrite earnings have NOT decreased or faltered at all. In fact, our Adbrite earnings are stronger now than ever. Wouldnt a bad economy effect the advertisers on Adbrite as well?!? Anyone else see similar results?
I don't agree with this point. In times of hardship advertisers actually increase their advertising spend. Think about that point before you respond. Dean
Advertisers 'should' increase spending, but that doesn't mean they do. I think they tighten their belts.
Deanjames, Google can still achieve growth even if individual advertisers are spending less on advertising. The growth represents advertisers shifting from traditional to internet advertising. Newspapers, TV, radio, etc are all losing out to the internet and therefore to google. I have noticed a significant decline in CPC via adsense over the last 2-3 months. CPC reflects what individual advertisers are willing to pay for a click. It is across the entire system and google is pulling out all stops in an attempt to maintain/meet earnings expectations so it's stock price will retain value. Google is currently increasings ads served per keyword from 2-3 to about 5. I also just read today that they are relaxing requirements for Adsense for Domains. They are laying off piles of workers, mostly contracted workers, but does it matter. Also, they have demonstrated recently a willingness to settle some lawsuits they would have fought on principle in the past. If they had done these things in the past, they would have had a blow out quarter. I'm guessing they'll meet expectations but not much more.
Ghengis, To be honest I'll take a company that shows any kind of growth in this climate. Everyone knows companies do 'window dressing' at the end of every quarter. Companies that are accountable to shareholders will always do what they can to portray their figures in the best light on a year on year basis ( and quarter on quarter ). The shift from traditional to internet advertising is a good thing for us. Okay, as an economy it may be another subject and we see friends and certain members of family take a hit, but we have no control over that. At the end of the day business on the internet is not a dying industry, that's all we need to know. Just my $0.02. Dean
mine adsense earnings have been going up not down, everyone's sites are different so it depends really.
That's not true. Advertisers increase their spendings because their niches continue to become more and more saturated. They are not advertisers like you would be — they are big, legitimate businesses, it's different for them, because they certainly don't look at Google AdWords in the same way as people on this forum do. It is just a source for advertising their products. Some lawyers spend $50 to hundreds per click, because their competition CAN AFFORD IT.
Yes, but how is that relevant to having an effect on changing Google AdSense per-click commissions on our side?
