Ouch! I went from PR 3 to PR 1!

I have an adsense site that I created in October that was a PR 3 for a long time. It has a lot of original content on it, all written by me. I wrote a lot of articles on ezinearticles and a few other directories linking to it, and it pretty quickly got up to PR 3.

Now, I have not updated the site or done anything to it since the end of February. I also stopped writing articles then. I wrote a couple articles a month ago, just for the heck of it, but the bulk of everything that I did was months ago. But it was AFTER I stopped writing articles linking to it that the page rank started rising! Why is it dropping now?

Is there any way for me to figure out what happened? Any tools I could use, sites I could visit that would give me a clue?

God, I hate being so dependent on Google.

A drop from a pr3 to pr1 is not a big fall. You lost pagerank probably because you lost some links pointing to your site, or the links pointing to your site lost some of their pagerank, so they are now passing less pagerank to your site. Just get more links and your pagerank will increase by the next update.

It fluctuates sometimes. It isn't anything to worry too much about just keep building links. I know it sucks though to watch it drop like that but don't let it get to you it will go back up.

Thank you, I really appreciate that. I was honestly quite upset when I saw that. I know I haven't updated in quite a while, but on the other hand, I have DOZENS of laser-targerted, high quality posts on that site. I guess I was hoping that would be enough to carry me over.

I've only done article marketing so far to create links. Any suggestions as to other ways to get links? My site is an adsense site, so going to high ranking sites and asking for a link isn't going to work. I tried social bookmarking and it didn't help.

The short answer, keep on publishing new content and getting new links.

The long starts with looking at the traffic, have you seen lower search rankings or traffic? If the traffic has remained consistent, who cares about the green bar, if it has fallen, start working on the short answer.

You say its an Adsense site. Has your income dropped? If not, then who cares about PR!

It's hard to say yet if the income has dropped - it's made about $75 so far this month - I generally make $125-150 a month. I just checked today and saw the PR had dropped; before that I hadn't checked in a few weeks, so I don't know when it happened. It's true, if the income doesn't drop I guess it's not the end of the world, although I was hoping to sell it soon and I would think that a PR3 would be worth more than a PR1.

But yes, I will start adding a post to the site every day and then use pingoat and pingomatic, and I guess I'll go write some more articles linking to it.

Wait... how did you check your PR? Have you not checked it since the last update? I am a bit confused.

I just checked it today by going to the site using the firefox toolbar which has the alexa plugin, if that makes sense.

I hadn't checked it in a few weeks. I don't go to the site that often, although I do check my Google adsense earnings every day. They were fine for the last few weeks.

How does one know when Google has done an update?

They did one somewhere near the end of July, and probably won't have another visible one for 3 months. I just thought you had an aweseome tool that would check your current PR. Google is always updating PR, but rarely shows us.

God, I wish. Although I would be obsessively checking it every day.

I just wrote a new post for my blog - the first one I've done in months - and alerted pingomatic. Pingoat seems to be down. I'm really going to have to figure out ways to get backlinks along with my article marketing.

Hello..can I also suggest submitting some of your posts to carnivals that relate to your niche? That's a good way to get a backlink and some traffic. :)

Maybe if you posted some google traffic stats over the past few months it could help us figure out what happened.

I remember taking my first hit from PR4 to PR1.. It was quite sad and had me scratching my head for hours wondering what I did wrong. Turns out that some of the links that were pointing to me ended up losing their page rank. I just went and got new links to point to me and within a week or so I was back up to PR4.

Kimochi, I have Google Analytics. What traffic stats would be helpful?

I guess I have to go write some more articles and figure out other ways to get backlinks. 3motions, how did you get new links?

The person who helped me design my site told me that his site just dropped from a PR 7 to a PR 4!

I hope we can all get our rankings back. I wrote a new post last night for my site and then used pingomatic. Now I have to figure out how to get some more backlinks in a non-blackhat way.

What's the link to your website?... It could be that the content has not been updated for a while..
