Other CMS (Not Drupal, Joomla or WP) - for consideration

They're are a heap of threads in this forum along the lines of 'which CMS should I use' and most passionately vote for one of the Big Three (Drupal, Joomla or Wordpress).

Not including the Big Three has anyone had experience with other CMS's. Put another way, if you developed using one of the Big Three and it were to fold is there a system you have in your back pocket that you wouldn't mind taking a further look.

I've fleetingly played with e107 but it seems like development has come to a standstill. Having said that I wouldn't mind delving a little deeper.

I've used subdreamer before. It has excellent forum integration but it's not large interactive sites. There's a limited number of mods and themes and the CMS seems to do prro with high loads of traffic. This is my experience with it anyhow.

I've had a bit of a go with mambo - which obviously is very like joomla, and a blogging platform called frog (which I don't think is still going)
They were both fine in their own terms, but it is the lack of themes and plug-ins that hampers lesser known cms and sends people running back to the big 3.

    I have used:
    Postnuke
    PHPnuke
    MDPro
    Dragonfly
    Mambo
    Drupal
    and a few others.

All of them have their good and bad points - and some have faded away. At one time PHPnuke and Postnuke were the two most popular ones on the market, but that was 8 - 10 years ago.

Mambo is almost an exact clone of Joomla. Even though there are some differences, they are a lot alike.

Drupal is cool - I have seen some really nice websites built with this CMS.

    MDPro - is almost dead

    Dragonfly - Is almost dead

There are a LOT of CMSs out there, but some of them do not stay up to date with security and bug fixes.

I've done the rounds like the above, phpnuke, postnuke etc and I also tried phpwebsite for a couple of years. It was okay but I wanted to consolidate all my sites to using something else so I changed the one site using phpwebsite to match my others.

I came across this site a while ago, opensourcecms, try before you buy so to speak (not that you have to actually buy anything). Very useful.

We're trying out ezPublish in our company for official website, and it looks okay so far http://ez.no/ so you might check it out also.

It's a bit advanced and may seem complicated for first timers, but also quite powerful.

typo3 is a very good php cms but very basic at out of the box version and need too much work.

plone is a perl script that is famous for it's security level!

I'm not sure why MODx isn't stuck in people's minds when they think of a CMS.

It's as easy as you want it to be, and has as much power as you want. Consider MODx - you won't regret it.
