You are mistaken. Most high end programmers and scientists like NASA use Macs. They have Dells there too, but most have Macs so they can integrate data from the Hubble telescope (Unix based I believe). In terms of games and high end graphic intensive programs, these too are also high-end Macs or Suns. Rarely are these made on a Windows based machine. Only to test with.

I am more fond of Linux though.

MAC is SOOOO much better than windows. I have had a mac and windows I like the mac so much more. Sure they don't have huge specs and aren't hugely customizable, but you dont need that because mac doesnt have all of that other crap running that windows needs.

I guess it just depends on personal preference.

Concerning the OP's theme, Mac OSX has served me excellently on both my iMac and MacBook Pro laptop. I have no complaints about it at all (and yes, I am a former PC user as well).

How am I mistaken? I said that in the high end media world of which I'm a part, MACs are not up to the job down to their locked down nature... PCs allow swaps of sound cards and specific graphics cards for jobs / clients.. MACs just dont allow you to do that..... OSX is nice and maybe one day it will be allowed on a non MAC branded PC, which will b great... but as a package their no where near as versatile... as for Hubble telescope.. I have no idea about that but it's a mute point for me as it is unapplicable in my situation

Macs are definitley not for high end programming. They are geared towards 2-d graphics...Windows and linux are more for programming, but I think many pros prefer Windows because of the superior software, (Visual Studio) intuitive GUI, and having a supported and well documented OS. All these make a very productive programming environment.

    Hi

i asked my friends too about this issue, but everyone said xp is best than vista,
for mac vista is the best, but lot of people using pc's only, so xp is the best for all people, may be after one year it may vice versa

i guess u have no idea at all.

running osx from the start. (use macs since 1987). have to commit, that it was a bit buggy under 10.1, but till 10.2 it´s stable like hell.
had to reboot only once, and it was because microsoft office crashed the whole stuff. (not using it any more)

so my point of view is: get ridd of ms and u are fine on your mac :)

btw.: i´m also high end grafics (3d and video); and i wouldn´t get my job done on a pc. i don´t need to swap any card (or what so ever), as they are up to the job!!!!! end of line!

ok, so please give me a correct color-workflow on a win-based pc. i´m realy interested how u do these.
talked with a lot of people (including some from adobe) and they all stated the same. »no correct color-workflow on pc´s«

and to call games, movies and music the graphic industrie is realy nice :)
avid runs perfect on macs (which was THE standard for cutting movies) now fc-pro is becoming a standard, as a lot of ppl in the industrie are starting to use it.
and for gaming, its of course pc. pc´s are made for gaming and not for working with!

You MAC guys are a lil blind to this situ - if you ever go into a truly high end programming studio / 3D, movie, etc etc - they have PCs because they can customise them - I have said OSX is a good OS, Im not disputing that - what I am disputing is the myth that they dont crash and that they are naturally better at media - its a widespread myth and should be shot down.

I'm not an Apple hater but branding has many people fooled ;)

Go to Linux- it will run on your Vista-trashed system very well. (I suggest Kubuntu, as it is more windows-looking with KDE than Gnome.)

Windows Xp Pro is the way to go. Practically never crashes. In fact, I don't remember the last time it has.

switched to mac last year, never looked back.

I do everything faster than before. Spend no time recovering data or crashes. Never worry about viruses or spyware.

For some people PC might be the way, but for internet marketers, its pretty much amazing.

If you've experienced Mac OS X, there's really no going back. Not for me at least. I'm forever an Apple fan.

If Apple released MacOS X now for PCs, 'm sure they would make a lot of money since so many Microsoft clients are disappointed with Vista, ready to switch to a different OS.

Too bad Apple doesn't have a PC strategy, a PC version and compatibility with PC products.

    I was a Mac user between 95' and 99'.

Exactly.. good point well made... OSX is good but Apple lock you in with their hardware so I'll always use PC (even though MAC is just a PC!)

I'm using OS X Tiger on a MacBook Pro, and Vista Ultimate on a similar spec Acer laptop. Generally I find OS X about 20-30% faster, and things just work, which is the Apple philosophy.

My other half also has a MacBook Pro and just can't get used to Finder or the trackpad. I think she's a Windows girl, whereas I've used linux and find the Mac way of doing things incredibly intuitive.

The big downside of Mac is inability to run .exe files natively. Using a virtual machine or the mac version of wine (crossover) just doesn't cut it. Hence my need for a second laptop running Vista

Tbh, there is no reason to switch to a mac, are they more stable?

No, My brother has a mac and on occasion programs have crashed, whereas for me (a heavy user) crashes really arent a common occourance.

As for looks- I think vista looks much better than osx, Dull grey? wtf is that????

And dont get me started on compatibility you know it all already.
