hey, i'm new in e-commerce section, and i didnt know a lot, especially about payment processes. well, i'm just 16, lol and i wanted to start an online shopping cart for my uncle's coffee company i recently found an opensource shopping cart CMS, oscommerce and i found it easier to use. now i want to ask(somebody who had used oscommerce CMS), i want to use credit cards as the default payment options, (as i've said, i dont know much about this), how can we know that our customer had already paid the money? how can we get the money?
Yes, you can either go to PayPal: www.PayPal.com And sign up for an account and let people send you payments as per normal. Or if you want you can go and get a merchant account and let people pay you via direct credit card payments. I have had over 5 years of professional web design and development skills and I am very used to oscommerce. You can most likely find a credit card payment processor and integrate that directly. I know I have done it many time for people before. If you don't mind me asking, what do you sell? Coffee online? I'm already interested!!!
yeah, coffees! and some books he wrote get a merchant account? hey can you elaborate more on that? (or maybe i should ask the bank, lol) paypal? well, in my country malaysia paypal is not so famous, or i can say not many people have paypal account so i prefer credit cards, or cheque or money order. yeah, maybe i'll sign up for paypal for international users. but how do paypal charge me for their payment service?
PayPal charges on a per transaction basis. Meaning you receive a payment and PayPal takes their fair (usually UNfair ) cut of the amount. And if you go to the PayPal website you can find out more about there merchant accounts. Basically it works in the same way but you can accept credit cards straight off, even people with out paypal accounts can checkout etc.
It doesn't matter. You can set your paypal account so that the person does not need to be a member of paypal. They click the checkout button on their shopping cart, select paypal, and give a credit card number, then get passed back to your follow up page to confirm that the order has been placed. Very simple. I would recommend using paypal-ipn over the standard paypal module though. It will save you some headaches. You might also want to check out chronopay. I can't recall off-hand if they will do credit card processing, but my instinct says yes. I use to do a lot of western union business with them at their old company. Great guys that are very reliable.
I've never used them. If you need pure credit card processing, you might want to delve into linkpoint.com and see what they offer you. ccbill.com is also usually easy to get rolling, but they deal mostly with adult and other high risk merchants, so their fees are higher.
