Hey Guys, Is it possible to SEO/SEM OsCommerce templates or templates that come from TemplateMonster? If so.. whats the best way?
I'm not sure why you'd want to use software that hasn't be updated in over 5 years. There are many derivatives that are actively supported, and that have much more robust seo features.
Well, zencart is a decent derivitive, that is actively supported, and they have templates on templatemonster. And if that doesn't work, it's got a decent template engine, so if you know what you're doing, it's not difficult to apply any html template to the cart.
Just use standard priniciples for any optimisation, I find OsCommerce abit of a mess but I have found some free templates you can get ok. Though at times alot of the table based layouts are cut up in a way that makes them hard to modify or heavy on images and this may make them not the best for SEO, but some of the CSS templates seem ok and give you a good base to start with.
oscommerce doens't make it very easy to optimize if you don't know what you're doing. It doens't come with a built in mod-rewrite, it doesn't use product names in the URLs, and it doens't even have unique titles per product information page. You'll find zent cart a big improvement.
I have used oscommerce on my London Tours site and although you need to use contribs such as SEO and MetaTags and the url rewrite I would actually speak positively of it. Its worked for me.
Yeah, there are a ton of contributions. I wrote many of them myself. Just keep in mind that you're going to kave to know a little php in order to install them. Remember, this is 5 year old software we're talking about here. They didn't have the plug and play contribution functionality that you have with most modern cms.
