    Hey pointians

Long story short, i own a store that sells t shirt printing in the UK. I would love to embrace the web and bring my store online to reach a wider audience.

I just need some advice starting out:

I have installed osCommerce on my server and got it all running, except it damn ugly....... Is there a good place to grab a decent theme for clothing?

Also i have been reading around these boards and it seems people think Magneto is a better way to go? Why?

I haven't played with Magneto, but I had installed OsCommerce on a couple of sites before. You can find many templates for OsCommerce if you don't like the one that comes with the script. You can also hire someone to design a custom skin for you.
Magneto is getting increasingly popular but I haven't played with it yet.

    Hello, add13ct!

I recommend you to take a look at CS-Cart - it has a number of nice skins included for free. Also it is easy their to set the product options -color, size etc. for your t-shirts.

I am pretty sure you mean Magento and magneto is a typo? I prefer to use Magento mainly because of the additional functions like CMS and Blog. It really helps when i need to keep my site fresh and up to date. The metrics for sales tracking is also really useful. I know most other eCommerce platforms have that but I find Magento to be one of the easiest for me to use. It also accepts all the major payment gateways like Realex, Paypal, Worldpay etc.

I think you should definitely have a look at Magento. It should satisfy your eCommerce needs.

I have no used either osCommerce or Magento. I use Zen Cart from what I've heard Zen Cart is based off of osCommerce but more kept up and is also free. I haven't really had any issues with it but I know a bit of code and was able to fix any problems I had. they also have forums were people are willing to give advice and help.

Magento and oscommerce do not belong in the same sentence and this is very easily done in Magento with a simple mod that allows uploads of art etc as well if need be. sizes, color and art all selectable from one page.

OsCommerce is a free cheap solution and I'm my opinion it's not great. It's been a while since I've used it but it always seemed pretty outdated to me and the admin isnt great. But hey, it's free so try it out and see what you think.

Magento is tough to use. I think osCommerce is easy to use and customize. Magento was also just bought out by Ebay and I dont think its being supported any more. I know they changed the name to x-cart or something. I would go with osCommerce beacause the admin is much more simple to use. Or if you want something with more horsepower try ezOSC.com its oscommerce on steroids LOL.
