Orphaned Site [ $1,400+ - 2007 Adsense Profit ]

I haven't worked on this site since sometime in 2006 but it has persisted because of the good content (I have a couple of members who post a news article every once in a while, and the tutorials draw external visitors).

It has been around for quite a while, has quality backlinks (a couple of frontpaged Digg articles, a FP slashdot article, a frontpage HardOCP article, among others), and is very well SEO'd. It comes with a forum that has 1,609 members and 25,897 posts.

It made $1,374 off of Adsense for content in 2007 with a low CTR. Plus around a hundred or so from Adsense for search and Adsense Firefox referrals. Totaling just over $1,400.

No costs associated with this site besides the hosting and domains.

I was never able to figure out how to properly monetize this site but I suspect there are some of you out there who would be able to do much better.

I believe I started the original site at the end of 2005. There was a domain change in 2006, all of the original pages were (and are) properly 301 redirected and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

In the past year I have put minimal work into the site. Probably 10 or 15 hours total over the year (just some administration stuff.. nothing major). I have lost interest in the subject matter so I haven't really found any motivation to work on the site.

The site is www.psp-programming.com - specializing in PSP Homebrew Development.

Domains that also come with the site are
    pspprogramming.com
    psprogramming.com

Stats since the domain switch in early 2006 here:
    http://www.psp-programming.com/awstats/cgi-bin/awstats.pl?config=psp-programming.com

Starting bid is about 1x Last Year's Revenue: $1,400
    Increments of $100 only please.

Bidding ends Feb 29 at 5:00 CST.

Any questions, feel free to post or PM me whichever you are most comfortable with (same with bids).
    I will consider reasonable BINs.

Edit: I forgot to mention, the transaction will be done through Escrow.com and buyer will pay the Escrow fees.

I guess what you gt here is approx 6 months revenue. Bidding starts around 1/6 of that that means starting bid would be around $100.

    But anyways, its your deal.

    Best of luck

yep, to agree with amitfan, your not going to get 12 months revenue for any site, anywhere - the valuation is 5 or 6 months profits max...

Having said that, I think its a nice site, and Im happy getting bidding going at $140 if you are happy starting the auction lower than you said.

I have seen plenty of sites sell on DP for 10-15 X monthly revenue. Not sure why previous posters are suggesting that you will only get 6 months. Not sure why they think like this as 12 - 18 months is the norm, not 6 months. Might be useful though to start opening bid lower and introduce a reserve so that you can have the option of not selling the site if you arent happy with the offers.

perhaps if the revs are about $1.50 a month!
check the site sales anywhere, here, sitepoint, even ebay.... standard valuation is 5,6 maybe 7 at a push months of profits.

What do I know though, Ive only bought/sold $250k worth of websites in the last 18 months.... ;)

besides, if you are interested, make a bid!!

I am not interested but I do follow a lot of sales closely and I frequently see sites sell for a years revenue or more which are sites making thousands a year in Adsense revenue. Maybe you have bought and sold for 250 k worth, good for you, but that still doesnt change the fact that 6 months revenue is absolutely not the norm.

Thanks for the tips guys, but I'm not interested in selling for anything less than one year's revenue. I would rather sit on it for a year or two than sell for such a low revenue multiplier.

People who sell for 6 months' revenue either don't think their revenue will be sustainable or not very smart (or their websites take a lot of work to maintain). When you think of ROI, if you buy a site for 6 months' revenue you're expecting 200% return if everything stays the same. Any investment where you have to expect 200% return to make it worth your while must be extremely risky (or an extremely good deal).

This site requires little effort to maintain and has a proven track record of revenue.

    Minimum bid stands.

thanks then, best of luck with your sale and I must retract my bid.

I recommend that you create a listing at sitepoint.com/marketplace under the established sites forum, you are more likely to find a buyer willing to bid that kind of money there.

good luck with your site, and your sale!

    best regards

I will probably do that if I don't find a buyer here. I figured I'd post it here first since I come by here from time to time and have bought sites from this forum.

That's a cool site. I'd bid -- if I knew anything about the PSP.

You can probably increase the revenue nicely by changing the top ad to a 336x280 or even a 300x250.

Yeldarb - don't feel pressured to sell for less than 1 year's revenue. 12x is reasonable and in my opinion, the only thread hijacker here was MOG. LOL, bidding $140. MOG, I sold a site a few months ago for 30x rev, so I don't know who's giving them up to you for 6x, but they can only be lower quality sites with short life spans.

I do agree with MOG on one point though - you may get a better response at SitePoint, and if programming sites were my niche, it would definitely be of interest.

    Good luck with your sale.
