    Orkut do not have that much users compare to Facebook and Orkut only popular in India and not global.
    When people start to target worldwide, is better to go with Facebook instead of Orkut

    Foremost reason is the closer level of interaction Facebook provides to its users which Orkut does not. Facebook literally eliminates sense of being distant from one another.

    I will say one of the biggest reason that Orkut failed is "internet Marketing" Facebook have billions of users, viral systems, useful applications and much more which suites to internet marketers better.

    I believe that most of the joining facebook invites would have been sent by this internet marketer itself.

    Correct me if i am wrong:)

    parmarjeet is correct orkut showed no interest in promotion where facebook still runs ads compaigns in adwords and uses banner adds.Initially people did nt like facebook because they were coming from orkut and found it too difficult to understand the system of facebook ,many people says that because of tagging ,comment share which we have in facebook made facebook popular its not like that people was nt aware of these things earlier they they found all these thing quite strange like me..it was the advertisement and promotion that helped facebook,,,i have developed a social networking website www.f4friends.com where i have given the oppurtunity to users to earn money by posting advertisement on their profile page.its like do what ever you does on facebook @ www.f4friends.com and earn money

    2, Users real time communication, great crowd.
    3, Facebook updated, make changes every time. (eg. Timeline, Graph Search, Facebook Home)

    I've used Orkut but Orkut gave nothing in comparison of Facebook, Orkut doesn't had the facilities of different type of apps and no video you can share on Orkut. I think every site has its era, "2006" that was the era of Orkut but this is 2013 and now Facebook is dominating social networks. Can't say anything about future.;)
