    with face book taking center stage from myspace in the social networking arena google wont be left behind
    it already has more than million users for its social networking site orkut.com
    and now wirth open social it certainly is following
    microsoft strategy
    embrace, extend, estinguish

    this certainly is going to heat up the battle

    They have to open Orkut for everyone. With that kind of site that works only with invitations Google can't beat FaceBook or MySpace.

    It's an interesting debate, however it seems to be little concern to either google or microsoft at the moment. As long as they have their fingers well and truely in the social networking pie, I don't think they are too bothered what the other is up to.

    It makes sense for google just to keep pulling further and further away in the search field. Thats where they can really hurt Microsoft.
