.org domain name restrictions?

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by dshah, Sep 13, 2005.

Are there any restrctions on placing ads (and related earnings) for .org domain names?

Can I just register .org name and create site with ads on it (just like .com). What are implications of having it as .org name?

    Many Thanks

There are no restrictions on registering a .ORG or what kind of site you can have on it.

The only difference I know about .org and .com is when you need to transfer a .org domain to the other registra, you will need a code (which .com and .net do not required).

As far as I know, there were some restriction at the beginning, when they were offered, but now they are free for all to register ,like .net and .org.
It was a good idea to provide .org for non-profit organization, too bad it's not the case now.
And by the way I own a good 3 letter .org domain, don't know what to do with it still, any suggestions? ;)

    It doesn't matter.
You can own an *.org and it is a profit-making website indeed. :D
But you may be accused of deceit by surfers.

On the other hand, it seems it is ok/normal to own a *.com but it is indeed non-profit-making, in the eye of surfers.
