I've heard that it doesn't really matter if you have .org/.net/.com/...

with domains, at least for now, and we're talking North America, dot com is absolutely king. I've seen posts and webcasts from a lot of huge domain holders, and they unanimously agree that .com is king. then comes .net, and then .org. Nothing wrong with a few of the others in your portfolio, but go for the .com first.

.org usually refers to a non-profit organization.

I don't think there is any difference if you are talking about SEO, but in terms of future value of domain org will be much lesser than the corresponding dot.com or dot.net. I rather take dot.biz if com/net is unavailable.

    if you do: http://www.google.com/trends?q=.com,+.net,+.org,+.info,+.us

you will have some good reliable information in your hands.

i would just say that, although many traffic put into .com, if you have a great potential to go with other tld, and money to market the 'non ordinary' tld, then hell why not...

you can also see .net usage is declining over the years while the .com usage is getting much much common

.tv usage is climbing as well:
    http://www.google.com/trends?q=.org,+.info,+.us,+.tv&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

in a matter of fact it's usage is more then .info or .us, and 1/5 about the usage of .org

    other tld's:
    .cc
    .co.uk

    etc..

Actually I find contry speciifc domain like .co.uk more desirable than .com where business is only to be done within UK.

I don't know why everyone is saying that .net is next to .com when .de is the next most bought tld!

Dot.De is good if you are targeting the German market. If you check on Google Webmaster, you will find that if you have country extensions, Google would normally put heavier weightage on that country. So .DE would rank well in the German version of Google. So if your target market isn't Germany you are at a disadvantage.

Dot.com/net on the other hand, Google allows you to target the country, this option is not available for country specific domains.

that theory would be correct, for german people who visit sites, they tend to visit 4 times more then a .com:

    http://www.google.com/trends?q=.com,+.de&ctab=0&geo=DE&geor=all&date=all&sort=0

I really don't the SE's give .org's less attention or respect. It all depends on the site and quality of relative content and backlinks and traffic. .org is a fine extension if you have something that deserves a .org domain name. Something that an actual organization, association or non-profit or group would be interested in.

I believe that .org/com/.net will be the kings and .com is the king right now

Who said .info is no good for SEO?

It doesn't matter on the extention IMO, all extentions are basically treated the same. There are .info & .org on the 1st page of Google as well.

Sorry this topic is blurred no and especially these stats go to prove that tld's or extension donot matter.

The graphs show that .com's are getting the most traffic - that does not mean that they are getting the most traffic because they are .com's. The reason there is more traffic for a .com is because there are more of them. If there were more .orgs than .com's registered then you would see .orgs capturing most of the traffic from developed websites.

.com is not king, although the demand for them in terms of good domain names is becoming scarce, therefore big prices.
