    quick question...

say i have a niche with a two-word title, for example:

    "tractor trailers"

obviously i'd want tractortrailers.com (if that was really my niche)

    My questions:

#1 - would: trailersTractor.com or trailerTractors.com deliver any SEO benefit since it at least contains the keywords?

#2 - what If somedomain.com was available, but I ran the site (via redirect from the base domain) at tractorTrailers.somedomain.com? would that have any benefit in terms of seo?

Thanks. Looking for some detailed answers, not just yes/no. Need to know the "why"

The order of terms would make difference also. Keep order same as keyword niche you want. I would use top level domain name and try different combinations if you need to find one that is not taken.

#1 - Yes domain names helps for SEO, having your keywords in domain definately help be it anyways say trailers or tractors doesnt matter, I will tell you WHY ?

Lets take example of some popular domains :-
    SeoBook, Travelocity, FlightsCity, CarHub

What this domains have in them is one of their keyword is used + one normal word which is more generic is used. Reason behind this idea is that always use one keyword and one generic keyword because These words have SEO value built into them, because people are forced to use your keywords

Also, Google values a keyword within the domain name for ranking purposes You can easily tell and measure the success based on : SeoBook, Travelocity, FlightsCity, CarHub

    #2 - sub.domain.com
There is a myth amongst SEO that sub domain will help in SEO but it only help if the content of sub domain is more or less related to the main domain . Meaning domain and subdomain can help each other if they are Similar niche from SEO perspective.
But otherwise if you have a solid business purpose for a "new" sub domain, with some substantial UNIQUE content that will be updated and maintained in a normal fashion, attracting its own inbound links and so on -- then perhaps a subdomain is in order. but it will have to be treated as Unique domain and need to have SEO done seperately, it wont or get help main domain

I don't think it would make that much of a difference, because when people search google highlight all relevant keywords regardless the order.
