We just had an interesting experience trying to book a trip for my wife in October. She will be flying from Canada to Shanghai and then coming back to Canada with a four day lay-over in Tokyo. She checked numerous sites and travel agents, but the best deal was from Orbitz, which continually quoted around $980 for the trip. Tonight she went to book the tickets. She got the trip quote and it was around $980, but when she went to book the ticket, Orbits upped the fair to around $1750. She tried agin on her computer . . . same result. So, she tried on my computer and the quoted fare was around $980, but when she went to pay Orbitz demanded $1750. So she called the help center for Orbitz. They said sometimes the ticket prices goes up between the time you get the quote and click to buy. They could not expalin why the site always quoted the identical lower price when it searched for the carriers and always came back with the identical higher price when she went to book the ticket -- on three separate occasions in the span of 30 minutes. We had heard some negative comments about Orbitz prior to this but figured it was the normal amount of garbage you hear about companies. However, what I saw tonight was clearly deceptive and I will not being using Orbitz in the future.
