I hear somebody say that use "-" is good more than "_" in URL rewrite friendly. It's true at this time?
yes, i heard it too, it’s seems that “_†is considered a character and “-“ it’s more like a space between words
Sounds like nonsense to me, it's the whole words that are important. If your page was dog_jet_boots.htm or dog-jet-boots.htm, or even dogjetboots.htm, the three words would come up in searches either way.
if you searched for "dog jet boots", I wonder if the _ or - would make a difference? It's not only the words that are important. Does anyone have any references to this _/- conundrum?
Matt Cutts says it doesnt matter, and if it does not matter with google it is unlikely to be a factor elsewhere. Hyphens seem more easy on the eye and brain being more natural in every day text so i think they are the winner from a human perspective.
I have had asking similar question on DP SEO section. they tell me use "-" Do Url seo ,%20,-,_, which is best
I heard underscore '_' wasn't supported by Google until recently so always used dash '-'. Seem to remember hearing somewhere that underscore is now also supported. I agree with the above though - the dash is easier on the eye Don't think it makes or brakes your serps though.
well, underscore "_" is only used in sub section of the site. they didn't put it on their main domain because dash "-" is more advisable to use...
It doesn't matter really. Or even if it does, no one will give you a definite answer as it most probably plays so tiny role that no one can notice its effect.
I think its all the same. I am using "-" before i have any idea - just to be easier for visitors/not using shift/. Recently read that Google is about to equal dashes to underline.
It makes no difference. That is all part of the past. Meta keywords and all this stuff is the most kiddish thing to do for SEO. Just concentrate on correct use of keywords.
What about when you don't use either of those? When you just leave space such as http://myemohairstyles.com/Guy Emo Hairstyles.html - is this not as good ?
It makes no real difference to search results, but it looks f***ing horrible to read for the users. Personally I never use either if I can help it, prefer to stick words together like baboonteeth.html - I always go by the rule with URLs, domain names and pages, that you must be able to easily spell it over the telephone to someone without any explanations - i.e. dots, dashes, underscore or, much worse, baboon followed by a percentage symbol followed by a twenty followed by teeth.html. It's much easier to say baboonteeth.html or baboonteeth.com over the phone and doesn't need any further clarification.
