Hi guys - I'm trying to make sure that I'm setting up a new site with the best and most optimized internal linking structure. I know that a sitemap is a good idea - makes things easier to crawl. But is there any other rule of thumb to internal linking between pages? There are a lot of places I use links to get to other parts of the site just to ensure for my viewers that it's easy to find your way around and access different pages - is there anything I'd be punished for though? Thanks in advance... Shannon
No, why in the world you would be punished? You should make a menu using

and use CSS to make it nice. Then both you, and the search engines find it easy to navigate.
Yep, there's no way you could be punished for internal linking, unless you made the links hidden, i.e. same colour text as the background
The only thing I can think of is putting too many links on page. ie... don't put 100 links on a page. Make sure your content / links are in good proportion. TheAdMan
Linking "in" the body of your context is a great way to move people around your site and it scores as a back link to boot. Or you could do like MSNBC and have related links at the bottom of each article. That will keep your people on site...lol
