hi, as far as i understand if i want to rank well particularly on google.co.uk i must pay more attention to getting backlinks on UK website? is that correct actually? and if it is how is an UK site defined - a .co.uk site or site with an actual UK traffic?

    thanks

.co.uk domain and UK servers are things which I think are essential.

Some people dont agree but I have historical data that shows how I just wasnt ranked on .co.uk when my servers where in US, so I moved them to UK and became well indexed

Not entirely although it helps to reach out for more UK traffic and it gives Search Engines more of an idea on the location the site is based on. How much is weighed on this? Who knows but it will help more than it will hurt.

If you are targeting Google.co.uk I would host the site in the U.K. but also if possible have an .co.uk domain. These will probably determine a better position in Google.

As you suggested, target UK sites for where you want your back links but don't rule out any from anywhere else.
