    hello,
what are the best options to optimize an old website for the search engines? The file names are not optimized but most of them are already listed in Google and have quite a bit of backlinks as well. Should i rename them anyway and redirect to older pages or are there other ways too? There are hundreds of pages in the site so I am not sure what is the best way to deal with it.

Make an auto redirection of all pages to the main page.
This way you will retain PR.

This is the most popular solution however in my exp keeping the file names and using them as content pages retains pr much better.
