Optimizing for niche keywords - "hiding" the pages

Im a little befuddled about the best way to go about this. I want to add plenty of new pages as the foundation for optimizing for more niche keywords, however, I don't really want these pages to be available for the general visitors to my sites. Chances are that there is a page on product A, and then these niche pages will be different names for Product A.

The question is - how best to deal with the site structure. Will adding these pages to the sitemap and google sitemaps be enough to get them picked up or do I need more agressive linking within the site itself (which I don't really want).

If you have a well ranked site then including the new pages in a google sitemap could be enough.

However I really don't think you should create a bunch of pages just for the search engines - its too risky.
