Hello there, Actually i have one site up so far, using Adsense in, but for your information, our country , Malaysia, 80% of the people are using local language, not English, after my site is up for 1 week, I invite ppl in, and i got no returning visitors, I know the content is not yet complete nor interesting, but when I look deeper into the visitors style, they prefer not to stay long enough on the site cause they think the site is design for international, not for local users. I also ask some of my friends to take a look, and they also think it's international site. So what is your opinion ? :- 1. optimizing adsense for local language, target local visitor 1st then when enough resources and popular, go international. this also provides me more instance in writing articles in my own language, original, genuine articles. 2. build 2 site, one with local language, one with English - this will greatly increase my workload, not prefer to. And one thing I have to also know, if i set my site in local language, does the ads also come in local language rather than English ?? if that so, it will greatly reduce my possibility in adsense earnings .
Your main aim is making more money. So do a research and find the best way that can bring you more money. I think it absolutely vital to have it in English as well. With a large population, you should be able to get a decent income even iof you target your local audience with local language. My openion is to have it on both the languages.
What about the ads if i come in local language 1st ?? will it also show in my local language ?? If I build 2 sites, I'm likely need to hire someone to manage the international .. your opinion ??
It depends on your advertisers. Google decided which ads to appear on your pages based on the content of your site and the location. If your site is in your local language, you should be getting ads in your local language but, may appear other ads as well. If there are no advertise in your language you can not have it regardless of what you do.
Will greatly reduces my Adsense earning possibility.. since more ads i've seen were in English.. i'm using CMS, that's why i've said, will greatly increase my workload .. but if no choice, i'll proceed with 2 sites..
Hi Rewlie, Can't you design one site that displays in both your local language and English? It seems to me I've seen sites with a gateway page, asking you to select your country - and depending on the country you select, the website displays in the language of that country. This may be easier than designing two separate websites. I should also say that I'm not an expert on the ToS, and I've never designed this type of site before, so you may want to review the ToS to make sure it's not a violation if you pursue this option. I don't see why it would be, though... HTH, Sam
Ok now here we go, with CMS, yes it's possible for users to change language but only applied to menu text, navigation text, not the content, so i have to re-translate the content, woo that's a lot of work to do, especially when you use CMS, on static html site, also possible, much more, but the content so static that i cannot perform CMS like adding, no wysiwyg editor. I guess i have to hire someone to duplicate my content to one more language
I don't know which CMS you're using, but with drupal it's possible to share users and/or content. And anything else in the DB you want. it allows for setting up multiple sites to be handled through on installation. So you could have subdomains ... when someone select 'English' it switches to en.mysite.com.my and cn.mysite.com.my for Chinese, and the main site in Malaysian. As your target audience is in Malaysia, you probably need your site to be in Bahasa Melayu, English and Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese, at least) so that you can reach the largest audience. Good luck, mate.
and the content does not automatically translate rite ? i means the articles .. that's mean i have to translate all the articles in 3 language .. hmm
Yes, unfortunately, you'd have to manually translate or pay someone to do it for you. Google and Altavista translators do a fairly good job of Chinese <-> English translations. They might help speed up the process.
I have these problem too, but I decide to have both language in my website. LOL (English and Thai) sometime ads show in chinese also,, don't know why Still figure out what is the best to do also.
