I had my site http://www.playpassgames.com for about a year and a half. I optimized it and everything. I have loads of backlinks (over 2,000). Then I changed my site to .php. Right when I was in the process of changing it (about a 5 day or so time period) my pagerank dropped from a 3 to a 1. I have no idea why that happened. I asked some people and they said that the pagerank must have been "fake". How could it be fake when the backlinks didn't change at all? I have more indexed pages on this site now too. Also, (I know this is kind of a newbie question) I was wandering when google updates the pagerank. I know it's definetly not instantly, but I don't think it's after it crawls it too. Because my pagerank hasn't gone up at all and I'm pretty sure it should have by now if your pagerank goes up when google spiders your site. I've heard some people say they do it every 30 days.
If you changed your urls from .html to .php, but didn't 301 redirect the .html pages to the .php pages you gave up your link juice. Do a 301 redirect and the page rank will come back. Right now it's still on your .html pages.
The people who said it's fake are dumb. If it was fake you would have to have faked it yourself, and you would know that it's fake. You have to constantly gain backlinks to keep your pagerank over time.
its pretty much clear that its a fake.... try again and this time double your effort in optimizing your wqebpage. Be patient.
index.html and index.php are two different pages, so two different PR score. As said, do a 301 to pass PR juice to the new page.
Umm yeah, why people even in this thread are saying the PR is faked.. Just to restate it you would know if you "faked" the PR.. With that said a 301 should help mitigate what has currently happened, it may take some more back links & time. In the end you should be back up to your old PR in no time.
