you can try to do follow blog and forum comments try useing anchor text make sure they are do follow and related to your site if possiable. Next try articles, next do a fan page from facebook. By signature links from other people in here. Also try meta tags re done.

In general, article and directory submissions have very limited effect on rankings now. I think the first step you should do is analyse the competition for the targeted keywords and see if it's probable you would outrank them. In analysing I mean, checking their backlinks, as it could be useful to see what good links they have etc...

I think you should spend time in creating good content such as articles which have the potential to go viral as search engines tend to give a lot of weigh on facebook 'shares/likes' twitter tweets.

You can work on same strategy as you work for old keywords. But in the beginning you should focus more on bookmarking and directory submission and then with the passage of time include all other on page tactics.
