Hey guys i was wondering which you would say is best to optimise a website for.

    "Search engine optimisation" or
    "Search engine optimization"

Which would you target, i am guessing the second as traffic is higher according to keyword research tools.

    Will.

    Search engine optimization :)

Try always for correct spelling because in keywords suggestions tools you can see also some words which are not correct, but there are maximum chances to search them. like procedure .... procesure , Tutor ...... tutior and so on.

Search engine optimization is right and search engine optimisation is wrong but you can get traffics by both.

According to me if you try to optimize your site according to optimisation then it can create problem because SE can consider this as spelling mistake and you will loose your quality.

    Thanks :)

Hmm strange...since when was optimisation classed as an incorrect way of spelling the word. Am i not correct in saying that "Optimization" is the american way of spelling the word where as "optimisation" is the English way of spelling the word.

I do agree though i think optimization will give me better chances, i just wanted other peoples opinions.

    Thanks.

It really depends on your location and language but Optimization is usually used in most searches.

So by targetting "SEO" i would be targeting both versions, now i was wondering why sites with "optimization" in the title tags would come up in the top 3 for "search engine optimisation"

Now could someone clear up whether or not

"optimization" is the American spelling and "optimisation" is the English spelling, thats what i thought.

Google recognizes both spellings, if you search one you will see the opposite version also bolded in the SERP's and vice-versa.

However you are better off using the 'z' version, it has the highest search volume and target audience. Also ranking for "SEO" doesn't deliver much quality traffic, it's mostly bots and other SEO's looking at your site.

It has been established buy now that 'optimization' and 'optimisation' are both correct was of spelling the same word. If Google algo operates on the principles of latent semantic indexing then it should be able to draw this correlation. However the use should depend on the region you are targeting.

LOL, do you think USA is the only country in the world or something... :)

Optimization is USA spelling (incorrect use of the English Language, just like Color, Neighbor, etc)

Optimisation is UK Spelling (Correct Use of the English Language, like Colour, Neighbour, etc)

Optimization will tend to show up more on the google.com search engine.
Optimisation will tend to show up more on the google.co.uk search engine.
