Optimisation Help on Dedi Server Running Multiple Proxies

I have a dedicated server which I have comfortably been running about 30 websites for a year or so now, but have recently added a proxy network of 40 sites to the server. Server load constantly goes above 50 and just wondered if anyone can give me any optimisation tips?

The proxies are all using PHProxy, I tried adding referer protection to stop other sites direct linking to files within the proxy but that didn't work. Also with the hotlinking thing, does it have to be set to 0 or 1 to disable it?

    Thanks for any help :)

40+ popular proxies should not be hosted on a p4. It just won't last.
Too much traffic and processing for such a low system to handle.

I would definitely add another GB of RAM to the system before performing any tweaks.
