Hi, I have read in SEO manuals and such that the optimal #of characters for the title tag is 66. Is this true? I have a question: Is is better if the title is a little different for every page on my site? If I am adding 25 article pages, should the title be different on each page? What is the optimal # of characters for the META description and META keywords tag? Thanks!
It's for the best that each page have it's own : title, meta description, meta keywords, image alt and link title . All these should correspond to the website's content .
<title> 65 characters maximum(including spaces) <meta name= "description" content = 155 characters or less <meta name = "keywords" content = 10-15 words alt text - This is a short description of the image which helps people who are blind and can't see the image itself and therefore need to read the description of what the image is. link title is to help users realize where they are going when they click on a link.
Meta Description appropriate length : 150 chars Meta Keywords appropriate length : about 10 keywords Page Title : about 60 chars Image alt is the alternate text that you see when you do mouse-over a picture on a web-page. You can implement it like this : <img src="picture.gif" alt="This picture is about my horse"> , the alt text is one of the tags to optimize on site. Title tag is the text you see when you go hover a link. It goes like this : <a href="http://www.domain.tld" title="This is my link">Link anchor</a> Do some keyword research before you use these tags, they can really make a difference.
All the meta tag should be unique .. otherwise Google itself log an error warning.. My site have some duplicate meta description and title.. Shows error through webmaster tool after index.. on that time i face some degradation tooo
rena is right about the difficulties you can go through with a meta duplicate. On the other hand, if they are set up properly they can really make a difference, I know because I "played" with keywords before and results appeared within days (don't take this case to general, depends on the market).
I was referring to duplicate in the content of meta tags from different pages of a website, something like "page1.html and page2.html have the same meta description and keywords". Each page should have it's own personality and focus, that's how we people think, and that's how engines think too, after all they are built on human model
