Opinions on whether to use Coop on one site needed

I am pretty familiar with the magic coop can do... at least I was about a year ago. Point a ton of weight at a page.. you rank well immediately on MSN, pretty quick on google, and after awhile on Yahoo too. Then, after a few weeks/month, google drops you, things stay pat for awhile at MSN, and Yahoo just fluctuates like it always does.

But I've been away for about a year and have spent a lot of time reading posts here on the current status of the coop. I am pretty sure it is still working for some sites b/c I can tell in the SERPS. Especially those guys with a bunch of weight. Here's my dillema... I use coop right now on new and crappy domains knowing the full consequences of overuse. Those domains are disposable in my opinion, so I don't mind it when I overdo it and they get punted out of the serps.

Now, I have a nice old domain in a competitive market. Its been online since 1999, dmoz and yahoo directory listed. PR6 all natural. The problem is that I just bought it and the old webmaster didn't know how to optimize it. It doesn't target any keywords in particular but if you look at the homepage and find a word (there is hardly any text to pick from) it will rank pretty well in google... so I know it has some respect from google.

I now want to expand this site and add several new pages targeting various keywords. The problem is, that those new pages won't rank well without the help of some backlinks pointing at them with keywords. Well, they will probably rank a little with internal linking just given the age of the site etc., but not high enough without backlinks.

So, should I use coop to point to these internal pages in order to get a bunch of links with keyword anchor indexed quickly or should I stick to using coop on my "disposable" domains? I just don't want to get this site on the bad side of google, b/c even without coop and by spending a ton of time working on a normal link campaign, I know I can get these pages to rank well. But, if you guys think coop will still work on an old site like this over the long term (not punted out of serps after a month)... I would like to know.

Also, I have seen a lot of posts lately about using a couple thousand weight per keyword. I used to point a lot more weight than that at pages. Will around 2k do the trick per keyword?

    Thanks for your feedback.

If it was me, I would not point any coop weight to the PR6 site. Let the new pages get indexed naturally. A good aged domain is just too hard to come by.

I also use coop weight only for "throw-away" domains, though I do get tempted from time to time to apply it to my 'clean' sites.

As far as how much weight to point at one page, it depends on the keyword and how competitive it is, but the consensus seems to be to gradually build up, starting with about 2K, and going up to about 50K at the most.
