when surfing for any site... 1. in what direction you usually read, is it horizontal or vertical? 2. on what part of the site that first caught your attention? 3. what backgrounds & colors that you feel relax & comfortable browsing the site? 4. what part of the site that you consider as hotspot/coldspot? opinions are really appreciated. thanks.
There is some good research on hot spots. I have supper on table and am waiting for diners to show up. If no one references the research will look up after supper and post. I tend to read from left to right for regular text and scan vertically for lists or scanning headings. Currently the color trend appears to me to be light background. ----------- http://www.poynter.org/content/resource_popup_view.asp?id=27204 Shannon
1. like reading a book - left to right, i.e. horizontal 2. around the center towards the top 3. for sites that require reading, i like white background and pastel colors. 4. not sure what this is... like mella said, a g-spot for websites?
1. I scan every page vertical before I read it in more detail. 2. Top Left or Top Center. Mostly Top Left. 3. Sites with text shouldn't be dark. I've seen some good ones done, but so many people have crappy monitors or don't know how to turn up their brightness/other settings that they can't even read them... (had a client like that, always thought his site was too dark) 4. I agree with the picture SiteTutor/Mike posted. The only thing I would change would be to make the top right squre yellow as well.
Hey sitetutor, do you have a link to the article that goes with that picture? I saw that graphic somewhere with a page or two of additional breakdowns such as the reader response is different if the text is underlined or bold. I can't find it off-hand.
Thanks SitePoint. You’re the best! Around! Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down You’re the Best! Around! Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down You’re the Best! Around! Nothing’s gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ow-own Know I have to go beat up some Cobra Kai websites.
lol. oops. I don't know this SitePoint you speak of. Man I guess I need to go to sleep when I just get people's names half right.
thanks for the inputs & suggestions. hodge: http://www.poynterextra.org/eyetrack2004/viewing.htm hope this would help.. when browing a site, hotspot is the one that first caught your attention.
Read left to right, top part of page I notice first, colors don't matter unless they are just ugly or excessively bright or colorful, hot spots especially in the center/off center-
