Operation System Problem

    Hi. I Want to buy a new DELL Notebook and in the shop on its page is written OS: LINUX . my Problem is : AFter I buy it can I change the oS to windows xp or VISTA?

    There are several notebooks which can't be used for anything else than Linux, but yes - in most cases you will be able to change it !

    Yes you can but do not forget to install a windows with sata drivers integrated in it ;)

    Ask them to provide Winxp or Vista Pre Installed.

    Pay attention to the harddrive - XP has no integrated SATA-drivers so the installation will fail if the laptop has a SATA-HDD

    It's pretty easy to patch your XP install disc to include the SATA drivers using NLite. I have a custom XP disc that loads my SATA drivers, so I can install XP onto a SATA drive no probs :)

    Why don't you ask them for the OS upgrade option. Many laptops come with various options and OS is one of them. If you do not have to pay much for the official copy of Win XP, then go for it.
