Hi Is there any law about using another name (not your real name) to promote and operate your business? I'm currently working for an employer and I do not know want them to know about my involvement in a new website venture. My employer may visit the new website. I know some book authors use another name, and actors have stage names, I've corresponded with many small website owners who I suspect are utilising false aliases. What can or can't you do in operating a website business under a different personal name? Thank you
You can use any name you like. Unless you are involved in a business where your personal information must be verified.
Using aliases in this capacity are completely legal. However you can't actually assume that name so all signed documents and such need to be in your name, the domain registration is no exception (use whois guard).
You can use whatever name you want. When you need to sign any legal documents you might run into trouble -if you use a credit card to purchase anything online you will need your real name -creating a business (either a corporation, partnership, or Sole proprietorship) you're gonna have to dish out a real name -also if you end up meeting anyone you've done business with in real life you might run into alias related issues
