I think you are right-on with that comment. I used Opera for years until I discovered all the great plugins for Firefox. If Opera allowed all those cool extensions I'd probably go back. My biggest problem going from Opera to FF was that with Opera you could close a window via the 'X' on its own tab. I rarely ever accidently closed the wrong window. Since FF doesn't have that ability I have to be more careful. Both are excellent.
With Opera, if you accidently close a tab, and have no idea which website it was, you can get it back from its trashcan function which is a small icon at the top right. Simply click it and all the tabs you closed in that session are revealed. No need to search history etc to see what website it was etc that you closed. Haven't had Opera 9 crash on me yet, but the ability to continue browsing from where you left off if the browser or OS crashed is one I cannot be without (rarely have less than 30 tabs open).
I am using Opera and IE. I think there is no Google toolbar available for opera. But I like opera for many reasons and IE for some other reasons. I never used Firefox. But I will try it
I have never really liked Opera, maybe its because it wasn't stable on my old computer (talking about windows ME though), and I never liked the interace. One the other hand, I love Firefox. It can be made to be as simple and fast as one likes, or full of features -- plus the x64 Minefield version is very fast on my copy of Windows x64.
Did anything ever run stabley on Windows Me? Opera can be coompletely customised - every single button, toolbar etc can be taken out or added to depending on your whim. You could have it as simple as a browser with address bar and tabs only if you wanted. And it would work without the back, forward buttons cause Mouse gestures allows you to move back and forward with a quick left-right or right-left click
I've used IE until like a week ago. All my friends told me that Opera and Firefox is better and so on ... i need the browser to browse and that's it. Until like a week ago when my xp started to act funny and my IE was closing for no reson. I hate to reinstall so I swich on FireFox for the first time. I might say it's like the best ... hmmm... beter then IE that is ... i've never try other browsers. I've read bove about opera and as I am still under the spell of FireFox and started to have my "last wife" - the old IE that is, I should try Opera... I am like a little kid in the toy store.
Just for the sake of it , probably worthwhile scanning your machine for spyware/malware/trojans etc with a good spyware scanner and antivirus. If your OS acts weried especially with IE, there is a good chance something has already entered your system. Maybe it only has hooked into IE, maybe it is a keylogger? Better to be on the safe side....
I've just dl and install Opera. It looks that I can't install google tool bar on it . Is there a trick for it ?
Opera is free to use yes. Go to download.com and download a spyware scanner from there. Some newer ones out which are good - I usually use a combination of Spybot and Adaware - you will find one spyware scanner is generally not enough .
Not too sure about the google bar - it does have the search ability of google and other search engines at the top right corner. You can also have a look for Widgets - sort of like Firefox Extensions if you're after pagerank etc. A nice function is to highlight a word in Opera and right-click - you can select Search and it will search google for that word - or you can chhose what engine to search with or go to dictionary.com for spelling/meaning etc. If you see a url you can highlight it and right click and select Goto URL - Always handy if it is not clickable. note that when you highlight a word - you can also translate it. A lot of google toolbar functionality is inbuilt by default into Opera.
Thanks for everything Claudek. One more thing.. I know adware is not licence free... I am kind of a freack with licences and all. Do you know one that is free ? Or if it's really good where can I buy a good one ? Thanks again.
