Opensource app to open ai files?

    Is there an opensource application/software out there that can open and manipulate .ai (adobe illustrator) files? :) Someone asked me and I couldnt think of any to suggest.

    Well inkscape is capable to open and edit AI files but it needs an extention

    www.inkscape.org/

    And for edit Photoshop files you can use

    http://www.gimp.org


    Both are excellent open sourse editors one for vectors and the other for bitmaps
