 I am trying to download the latest firmware for my router, because it might be preventing me from playing my online games. I went to the manufacturer website and went thru the process and finally I clicked download, then it asked me to open it or save it and I pressed "open", It started downloading but stopped and THEN, Windows said it can not open file, and it showed me the ext type it said"bin"; So what do I need to open that type of file(bin) with and how can i get it? Can some one please help me if you can ? Please and Thank you you in Advance!!!!!!1

.bin simply means the file is in Binary format. There are more than one format that uses the .bin extension.

One is for use in disk images. Instead of an .iso or .dmg, sometimes CD's or disks are packaged byte-by-byte and stored in a .bin file (to be burned or) so you can extract them exactly as they are to a location. Altough this is possible, I find it unlikely.

The second place I've seen BIN, and more frequently, is in the Linux/Unix world, where it can be a simple executable file (like an EXE on windows). Since almost all networking stuff is based on the unix standards, and your router probably uses linux to do its job, it's highly likely this is the file you either need to feed it so it may auto-update itself, or you need to execute from a linux/unix computer attached to it.

I think you have some more reading to do, and google how other people with your router managed to update it.
