So ... Does sending visitors to a new tab/window (target="_blank") affect conversions?
Anyone done any number crunching on this?

I have never done any number crunching on this one, but I still have my links to affiliate sites open in a new window from my main site. Why? If the viewer decides not to buy that item, they may be interested in another I offer, and I don't want them to have any problems getting back to my site.

Additionally, I may be promoting similar softwares. If the viewer is doing comparison shopping, I also want him/her to be able to find their way back to my site easily.

I've been doing the same thing (opening links in new windows/tabs)... but I'm starting to think it might make some of my sites look cheap - some people consider a new window annoying (especially in IE).

If it means more people actually read the affiliate page I'm linking to, I'm almost ready to risk people not being able to find their way back to my site.
