I am running a dedicated Linux server and I need to open a port, preferably TCP or UDP. all the other ports are secure, private and require authentication. i just need to enable one to what can listen to my requests so to speak. Anyone around that can help me or point me in the right direction?
/etc/inetd.conf is where you can start services. You can also use a firewall to decide what ports you want open or closed.
Hire me as a system administrator, you don't know what you're doing if you can't open a port in iptables
Are you looking for a dedicated firewall? There are a number of them that don't run Linux and are likely to be BSD-based. Check out Juniper's NetScreen or just do a search on Google. But unless you have a good reason to avoid Linux, it can be used quite effectively as a firewall to protect your average network/server. Just make sure it's a locked-down and updated system.
lol, thats like saying"Give me your bank details and i will put money in your account". Not going to happen!
Well pm me for more info and I'll give you a list of the sites I manage, I can promise they're much larger then you'd expect
