Opened a google group with the same name of a group previously closed

I apologize if I'm posting in a section probably not connected directly to google group but honestly I could not find a place dedicated to it.
I was one of the administrator of a google group. The two owners of that group closed this group without a warning to the members and administrators and without giving any reason before to close it.

Some members disappointed asked me to re-open the group. I did using the same name as I was sure not interest had the owner for that group and name .
The owners of this previous group are accusing me now I appropriate that group and his name unjustly/illegally. Please note the name used is a general name. It is not connected to any person, company or legal entity. This group is no-profit based, it is a free support to all members
I wonder if this thing can 'be real and established or not".

Asking around what I know the name of googlegroup follows the principles of the domain rules that is: if someone is shown not interest the name go back to the market. In fact, in that case I couldn't open a group with the same name of one was already active, Google would not allow me to do it.
I believe also as I was the founder and administrator of this group I can't be accused of appropriation.

I really appreciate if anyone could kindly clarify this matter

    Thanks

If nobody else is using the name, then it should be fair game. If Google will give it to you, go for it.

Also, the people giving you a hard time about it...ignore them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
