If you had to choose between the two, which one would it be and why?

I would prefer Prestashop becasue it is easy to customize, plenty of free plugins and themes available, support available through prestashop forum and secure too.

Ya I have to agree about the free plugins. This site just seems to be so touchy and being a beginner and all, for me it can get quite technical as well. I really like the forums too. Customizing the themes is a little difficult if you dont have a lot of experience with it. I have been lightly exposed to HTML but never php. so that creates an issue. Thanks for your opinion.

Thanks for your reply but I have to differ with you on the import issue. These .csv files have me completely baffled. I will get it eventually though. Thanks agaiin.

i am 100% for opencart. i have used both and i can say for sure that opencart was WAY easier to learn, setup, and get my store going in the shortest amount of time with no knowledge of eather. i installed prestashop, it was too complacated, so i installed opencart, and had the shop going that same day.

Thanks to all of you who had something to say and even those who didn't. I put this up on the board to help me make this decision but still I am torn. I have been using prestashop for awhile now and still do not have a live site. I am sure it is mostly user error. But also it seems like when i get something running right, another thing messes up. So I think I am going to give opencart a shot and see what I can mess up there. Thanks again everybody.

Both are good products, but the user "community" for Prestashop seems stronger. So when (not if) you need assistance with the software you'll be able to find others users to assist.

Recent Magento convert. When deciding between packages, please take a look at the community and how many people are active and are offering help. The Magento community forums have NOT been helpful. Luckily with Magento's popularity, there are many 3rd part blogs that offer help & tips on many Magento related topics.

You should try contacting Mike, PrestaShop's Community Manager. He's saved my butt a bunch of times and handles most of their forum issues, and is very accessible by email as well. Send it to , and I'm sure he'll be pretty receptive to helpign you out.

    Cheers,
    Matthew

    Hi,

It depends which one you prefer, however, we would suggest to try OpenCart first as it is very simple to use.

    Hope this helps,
