Hi There, To all of you. If you never tried the Open Office version it is very similar to microsoft office. Hovewer, it's free of charge for home users for ever. It is backward compatible with almost any other word processing application. Try it, I did and never looked back.
I don't think so because I am using Microsoft office 2007 and open office in my ubuntu machine. Microsoft office 2007 is far better than open office.
I have been using open office for about 6 years now. When I do consulting work and a small business ask about a business suite, I always recommend open office first. Only when a customer pushes for a microsoft office suite will I agree to install it for them. In my opinion - if all you need is a word processor or spreadsheet, open office will fit your needs just fine.
An avid Open Office user here too. I find it better because it is open source, backward compatible and easy to use.
I've tried to ween myself from all MS products (except OS windows), and found open office to be very beneficial based on price... ya, it has its issues but fewer than the $400 issues MS brings to the table. Terry
I agree with all of you... I myself am an avid user of Open-Office and for the last 3 years it has been my primary suite of office applications... For spreadsheets, wordprocessing and more - it's simplicity is great, although it does lack some features that MSOffice has, they aren't critical to most uses.
I rarely use Microsoft office. But i worked in Open office in linux and it is really good. It has everything. I also tried Lotus office but it need more to be done.
The feature I like best is the export to PDF. Pity that Open Office cannot write PDF files. Though there are plugins to enable OO to do that, it is still a far cry from Adobe. The day OO can do that as good as Adobe is the day it achieve perfection!
I use Open Office, too. Microsoft office is just way too expensive. The feathers of open office is enough for me to use.
over 3years im using open office and i like it very much. 3years without any problem, especially with budget offcourse.
MS Office wins hands down, any day. They just have more features which are easier to use and very simple for the normal user. OpenOffice, I would put it at par with MS 2003, but no further. I'd prefer to use MO 2007 if given a choice. It's simply a better product and you can't argue against it. Of course, I'm looking at it from the perspective of someone who doesn't pay for MO 2007 (shameless I know), so I guess someone who has to pay for MO would prefer to use OpenOffice instead.
there's no comparison between Office 2007 and Open Office!! Office 2007 is the best office suite I have ever used in my life.
Given a choice, of course I would rather take Microsoft Office 2007 (if it is given freely and LEGALLY)
OpenOffice works great for anyone who wants to use spreadsheet, word etc at low volume. Power users better stick to Office though.
