Open Hosting Account Using Your Own CJ Links

    Hi there

I am about to get myself a small shared hosting account at HostGator and am just wondering if it is OK to use my own affiliate links from CJ for the signup?

I'm not going to be doing this multiple times or anything, and intend to use the hosting account normally, but an extra US$70 in my pocket for my own lead wouldn't hurt ;)

    Thanks.

    Hey,

    Dont lose $70 !

You can signup for your own link. When I opened a CJ account I made two leads from my own PC (just to check) and got no problems.

But consider doing the lead from a Cybercafe or friend's PC for a safety. That would be better.

I have seen in some newsletters that the advertiser allows using this link 1 time for your own website. You can ask CJ support dept. about this

Thanks for the reply, but this implies that it is not allowed. I dont want to do it if it's against the TOS.

I am not sure whether it is allowed or not..

But there is a term in TOS which states the you cannot submit leads yourself

It's allowed. I do it all the time for multiple advertisers. I actually used to work for CJ, there's no problem with it.

Actually some Web Hosting Companies allow that.. but HostGator dont allow that.. you can register your Hosting at StartLogic.com they allow their affiliates to signup for their hosting from their own link but for the yearly plan only.

Wouldn't this be considered incentivised traffic? From the hosting company's vantage, they're losing $70 since you already know about their site and aren't gaining any advertising opportunity through it.

They can lose that amount of money because they are rich enough to do that!

Why dont you just read thier TOS and see whats good....

Trying to steal money back is most likely not going to be allowed.
