Does putting text in CAPS or lower case have any effect on the SEO of a website? Also many of my Alt tags for images, and throughout the site have repeated words, this is in no way intented will Google look on my site as bad because i've put keywords everywhere? Also will text in external php files be read?
they may class it as spam i think with alt tags it depends on the % so if one is called say zippo_ford and the other is harley_zippo the % is 50% ( words used divided by number of keywords words ) but if i just call one harley % goes down to 33%
Can't comment with certainty on the external PHP's, but I can tell you that Google doesn't distinctify whether text is upper or lower case when analysing for relevance for indexing. As for your alt tags, if you are labeling each in a way that describes the image and/or are using one or two keywords that are relevant, then you shouldn't be penalized in any way. To be penalized for spamming in alt tags, or any tags for that matter, you need to literally stuff the tag with keywords or use somethin radically and unacceptably different (e.g. have a picture of a childrens toy with "viagra" in the alt tag). You might find it useful to read The Beginners Guide to SEO at http://www.seomoz.org/article/beginners-guide-to-search-engine-optimization . Even if you already have some experience with SEO, it's a comprehensive overview that will highlight and reinforce key factors. Best of luck mate!
Cheers mate, thanks for the help will give it a read now was looking for something like that. Wonder if anybody could clarify if the googlebot will find my external php files as my navbar which contains keywords, and many other items are located externally. By the way when you both say you can get penalized for spamming, does this result in lower listings in Google due to the overuse of Keywords?
Exactly what penalized means is unclear - it depends what you're doing and how Google decides to redress the balance. The big thing about spamming these days is that it simply doesn't help - if anything it damages you on-page optimization. A few years ago these elements were much more important; these days on-page optimization is simply your foundation, the training before the race. Link building is the race itself!
