onpage and off page both are very important factor for any website to rank well in search engines as if you jsut concentrate on onpage changes of site then you will not get good ranking with though keywords and similar alot of offpage will not help you until you not properly write tags and other onpage factors.

if you are within an area that holds a large amount of competition off page is easily dominant. Assuming you dont hold a ridiculous bounce rate.

In my opinion, offpage seo is a lot more important. I've seen numerous sites without any, let me repeat that, ANY, onpage seo done on their sites, meaning no meta tags, no keyword saturation, no whatsoever. But these sites were ranked high and receiving tremendous traffic organically.

But of course, both are important. However, if I had to choose, my answer is offpage by far.

    Regards,
    Joseph

    I beleiive both are important

On-Page Optimization is important as they tell Search Engines whats the importance rating of different keywords on your site. A Keyword which is repeated 20 times in a 500 words content in bold format, is surely more important than other keywords on the websites

Off-Page Optimization helps you in fighting the competitor world. Although, Search Enginge Finds that this is the most important keyword but competition for it might be so much that you are ranked no where in the first 10 pages of Serch for it. However, wih Off-Site Optimization, you tell Search Engines that my website is better than others for the same keywords

Off-Site Optimization is nothing without On-Site....and in this Competiting Internet World, On-Site OPtimization will not give you the fruits without Off-Site Optimization

both are Important because you do offpage so you can get traffic and you want your visitor visit again on your site so this visitors want daily new(Info, etc.) on your site that's why On page is also Important.
one visitor got daily same Info, etc. on your sites so he/she visit maximum 3-4 time not more and he/she got daily new on your sites so he/she visit again and again.
    So Both are equal Important.

The simple answer Lu Weng (Li Wing) to the best of my knowledge the ultimate understanding is this >

    Content is King !!

    Presentation is Contents Queen !

Presentation is "A Flirtatious Queen" that can depend on many factors - including accessibility - So - I really hope that helps to clarify all things?

The above is a perfect statement of ultimate on page SEO truth as far as all humanity could hope to undrstand IMHO.

(Hey Li Weng - Please tell more about what i said how it made you feel?)

SearchEngineWatch.com says SEO is 20% on-page and 80% off-page, with Google anyway. On-page serves primarily to establish content relevancy, while off-page establishes authority for that content. In competitive niche markets, there may can be thousands of sites with good relevancy / on-page SEO. But its only sites deemed to have authority - related to the number of relevant inbound links, CTR, "stickiness", etc - that will get to the front page and stay there.

Google's propaganda is that clean, high quality content will get you there, but everyone knows that Google's Page-Rank system relies on link juice... so right now, off-page outweighs on-page. Granted, you should have relevant title tags and relevant, call-to-action descriptions, but the on-page balancing act of targeting a keyword density, repetition of keywords etc, just doesn't have as much pull as it used to, mainly because everybody is already on-page optimized in the competitive niches.

Since Yahoo doesn't pay as much attention to inbound links, they kinda suck right now. But it won't be long before Google has to find another way to weed out well-optimized adverts. I think SEO will beat Google one day, and when that happens, everyone will go PPC, in which case, Google still wins.

    Here's my take,

Short term- Off page optimization i.e. link development. I don't think this strategy can last through the years unless the link development is through webmasters that freely offer their links because they like your content.

Long term- On page optimization i.e. all the SEO done correctly but most of all good content that readers will flock too and want to come back for more. It's only a matter of time when the search engines will become smart enough to realize what links are truly earned and what sites have low bounce rates. Think about it, the search engines want to deliver results that the surfer is looking for. Also natural link building will occur at a fairly steady rate with good content.

So the quickest way to ranking is good off page SEO, but to sustain it you must have good on page SEO.

Yeah as all said i am agree with them that both on page and of page optimization are important. But when we are going to start SEO for any site we first apply On page optimization, and in my opinion it is very important. Of page is also important.

on-page is when you design the site or develop the site fresh or with new content. off-page is continous and long term. both are important. if you initially do a good job with on-page, your off-page optimization will be lot easier for you
