On page factor: -To rank well on yahoo, on page optimization is very important. You must use your primary keywords in the title and meta tag. conduct a detailed keyword research to identify the main theme of your website.

You've been following Google's Algo, REALLY? Maybe you're talking about Google's Guidelines.
I think they agree as long as your methods are ethical enough to say that at least you're doing the right thing.

On page optimization is important to rank well in any popular search engine, ;)

All that I can say, is if you have useful content, a lot of backlinks pointing to your website and you've optimized all pages of your website, then you'd do fine in Yahoo's search engine, ;)

On-page optimization is important with yahoo. It is also good to have your Homepage (and internal pages) on buzz.yahoo.com. You'll also see some Google benes from this.

Yahoo also follow the same links that Google do, but difference i think is wattage they give to those links. If you are more emphasize on blog commenting then it helps in optimizing on Yahoo, but too much of that hurts Google ranking.

Don't forget to add h1, h2, and h3 tags along with images and seo those images as well in the alt text tags to get higher rankings and benefits from being on page optimized.

Standard onpage optimization still works as long as backlinks help SEs to find the page. Nothing new there about what to do.

    Write meta description.
Give a crisp description about your website. It places you at an advantageous position in SERP.

It's pretty much the same for any major search engine. Also, the database of search at Yahoo is the oldest and so there is much more competition on Yahoo than on Google. But the harsh fact is that why would you worry about ranking well on Yahoo when hardly anyone uses it. I mean 80-85% of the search engine traffic comes from Google.

From my experience, if you follow on-page optimization for google, you will not get ranked in yahoo. Its all the magic of off-page (Link building). I do link building, and yes getting some help from onpage also. But I have noticed if you starts link building and built hundreds of backlinks from good and relevant websites, your rank will be increased in yahoo also. Or the second option is keyword stuffing. Include the target keywords everywhere : url of the page, heading, image alt, footer, header (in the form of punch line) and stuff title and meta description with the target keywords. But this is not the long term solution. Now yahoo is the partner of msn and they will definately change the algo and introduce smart algo
