From my experience: Only hear sound, no picture. Avi file downloaded from youtube or somewhere else or edited by yourself. I think it is a video codec problem. You can use divx code, xvid codec, or ffdshow. Or download a free codec package k-lite codec package. Install a prope codec and then reboot computer. The problem should be fixed.

I try my best to avoid .AVI's and other old formats. I use VLC on mac and ubuntu and I never seem to have issues (even without extra codec packs)
Did anyone actually read the first post? moyeun is providing a 'solution', not asking a question. This thread sucks.
I did read the original post thankyouverymuch. Thanks for insulting me - did you even bother to read MY post, where instead of 'answering' with a solution, I simply stated my setup on two operating systems and explained that I haven't NEEDED to do as many steps as the above posters. If this wasn't asking a question, why was the thread created? Do you have an answer for that? I always assumed he created the thread because he didn't know at first, found a solution, and wanted to share it. That's all anybody here has done (except you). So far everybody but you has actually contributed something to this thread, so if any of us here are out of line it's you Kero. If you don't have anything good to contribute, don't write something anyway, just please find a thread where your comments can help others instead of hurt them. Sidenote, back to the original topic: many codecs can be found from links on this site: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/news.html very helpful when trying to play Microsoft formats on non-microsoft operating systems.
