    What's 'Secure by Lumlawalata'?

Please make sure you're protected against everything, if in doubt, don't go there!

    Thanks for any help!

edit: I deleted the link, as it's creating too many problems even to experts.

I apologize, but still can't understand what's going on!

When I say it crashed my PC I mean't it crashed my PC I have been on the net for over 10 years and I am not in the business of exagerating what happened!

I lost all my files that I was working on................best part of 2 hours work that I had been working on.

I am not here as a surfer with just my browser open and if I do a ctrl+alt+del it does not matter

It matters to me when I have lost over 20 minutes of my time on this threas, and 2 hours of data lost when I just innocently genuinely tried to help you out

I am not blaming you but this sucks big time

    WOW, I am very sorry!

I didn't mean to do any harm, seriously.

I thank you anyway for trying to help.

I checked it out before posting and all that happened was what I said above, so I thought it wasn't going to be that dangerous, and that's why I made sure everyone was aware of some possible danger, although not much can be understood without visiting the link.

    Britishguy, please accept my apologies...

And if anybody else could help me that would be very appreciated!

I just came across a similar site, but it didn't freeze my pc.

This is the address, but BEWARE, if you are afraid, DON'T go there, just read the thread and see if you have any idea of what's going on and most of all, what to do to prevent it happening.

Last night I had an issue with britishguy because he clicked on the link and had problems, I don't want to go there all over again with anybody else!

The link (not clickable;)): www . nooblet . ws

on the page, this message: Hacked By CyberLord FOR ISLAM

In my case it was: secure by Lumlawalata

It looks like loose hackers, motivated by religion, in this case Islam.

I have nothing to do with any religious issue, so am I a random victim?

And how do they do that so I can do something to prevent it from happening?

Thank you so much for any help!

Simply seems that someone hacked those sites.
In first case as you described it was causing PCs to hang/crash, most likely the hacker was using an ActiveX control, associated with that page to make your PC Crash/Hang..

    Thanks!

But my main concern that in the first case of the thread it was MY website, and it's the 3rd one that gets hacked.

So what can I do to prevent this from happening, that is my websites to be hacked?

    Thanks again!

    :)

You should visit http://www.governmentsecurity.org or SecurityFocus. Visit these sites and learn how to prevent your site from being defaced. :)

You need to scan your web server for open ports and other vulnerabilities...

    Thank you jhinga!

Can you be more specific please, I don't know much about that.

Do you mean that the problem lies within the web server, so it's the hosting company that should take action?

First of all, let us know if you are hosting your site on someone else's server (your web hosting provider) or on a dedicated server.

If you are hosing on your own server (dedicated), port scanning won't be a problem. In case.. if you are using any other hosting service (shared web hosting environment), you must take permission to run a port scan on your web hosting provider's server. If you ignore this point, you may be in a big trouble.

Feel free to ask if you have more questions! :)

Yes, I have a web hosting provider.

So I understand that I have to seek for permission to run the port scan, not ask them to do it, right?

If so, is there some tool or software that i can use to perform the scan? I never even got close to doing something like that, and with all there is to worry about this wasn't exactly expected. I thought that those that got websites hacked were doing something silly and/or strange that I wasn't!

    Thanks Avi! :)

    You are welcome!

Well.. Since you are using a hosting service, I don't think that they'll allow you to run a port scan on their server. (You can try to ask though)

Most of the time, it's our fault when our website gets defaced. We don't realize the security risk before something bad happens (most of the time). You should use Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner for your websites.

It's a pretty powerful software. After few minutes (depends on your system performance), you'll have a complete list of the loopholes that can be used to hack your website.

There are too many security factors. According to my own experience in the network security field, I can say that no website is fully secure on the Net because bad guys won't stop their tries to find a weak point. The only thing can stop your website from being defaced is your own awareness. :)
