no directory submission will help to you upto some stage. it is not enough to get some ranking. it will help you only some less traffic but in very high traffic you need to do more for website optimization.

It won't be enough for competitive niches but it's good for link profile diversification.
You will need strong backlinks from established & authority sites for top rankings.

Yes it is enough, but it should not be the only strategy.

    It is never enough.
You have to use different tactics to rank for a competitive keyword

    Why the sarcastic smiley? :)

For a low competition site, easy to rank for, directory submission is enough.

For anything more than that, in most cases directory submission may not be enough.

 sarcastic smiley just for the sake of it. :)

    Is my reply favourable?

If you don't see a lot of websites using the keyword in 'title' and you have a good domain, 100-200 directory submissions may be able to get you on first page easily.

My recommendation will be that you don't stick to 'one' method of link building. What if google and other SEs discount that method completely? Your websites will loose ranking very quickly. Maintain a diversified backlink profile.

website links will not be enough - especially where general directories are concerned.

One word sums it up - Distrust

If you can get past that, you may have something, but it takes more than online methods.

If a site is struggling to get links that badly, it's time to get out fast and do something that isn't a struggle.

for Google, nothing is enough, really. You've to constantly update and tweak all aspects of SEO. Directory submission is a very small part of it.

Well, I got out of the General directory game because even with 60k worth of links, it didn't make a difference. After realising those links were practically worthless and people were just taking advantage of me, it was time to jack it in.

I know exactly what it takes to do this properly, and spending time chasing links all the time is a bad idea. It's very costly in terms of time, not to mention boring.

Such a shame why so many waste time on it for little results. Trust me, after getting 60k worth of links, I got nothing from it except work, hassle and wasted time. Until I discovered what I was doing wrong....

My next idea was better and that alone created more web buzz and visitors than any link swap campaign ever could.

When I think of the time I wasted swapping links with webmasters, all for nothing too lol. I now get millions of hits a year.

60k?!? Man, that's a huge number. As xclusive said, directory submission is a very small part of SEO but it's not worthless and I totally agree.

It's quite good amount, I've seen 1 directory with 495k of links, but even that's not good compared to sites with millions of them.

    www.iVillage.com 3,453,625
    www.NBA.com 3,993,987

    www.Amazon.com 5,039,699
    www.CNN.com 5,157,336
    www.WebMD.com 6,623,227

So it shows that 10,000 links isn't worth anything at all.

Predictable I suppose when sites become powerful.

Well, I'm sure if they can build a simple submitter, then so can I. But why would they bother in the first place when so many prefer submitting by hand.

Ahhh, to make a fast buck. Okay so now I've sussed what their doing, I'm so not going to use their product.
