Andy I've thought about starting a tutoring website. The educational market is an excellent market to go into if you want to do tutoring. It has a lot of growth potential, yet is not as saturated or competitive as other markets. I personally think that is an excellent place to start. You ask how a site about tutoring could make money? Well, they are quite a few ways. Most people are bad at math, so a math tutoring site would be a good idea(I might build one myself). You could offer flash or shockwave tutorials that show step by step how to solve specific problems. You could offer a basic tutoring package, where you allow them to freely get tutoring with certain problems. Then you can have a more advanced package where you give more details and charge a monthly fee. You can also start an affiliate program with math related books and use adsense to generate excellent revenue. You would easily be able to get link exchanges from education related sites. Man as I write this post this idea sounds better and better. If you take my idea that is cool. I have more where that came from.
