I am not sure.. but there is a 100% custom duty on importing electronics and mechanical goods.
Why don't you buy an iPod from your local electronics market? Its widely available here in India.

yeah , i dont think any do , mainly because a lot of indians dont use paypal / moneybookers , its just a few webmasters who do. The only one who sells via paypal is jjmehta.com , they sell cameras, could be a good xmas buy ;)

Had you paid 100% custom duty for it ?

I am aware of custom duty but not aware that it is 100%:eek: (double price for an electronic )

The main advantage for online shopping is we can compare variety of products which is not available at local market in India:(

I asked an ebay.in representative, he said the seller had the option of accepting payment by paypal. But most sellers don't use paypal. Just our luck...

I found a very nice and informative blog for import/export querries.
    http://personalimport.blogspot.com/

    Comments appreciated.

    The blog says that
-- if the Bought electronic is less than Rs2000 , no need to pay custom duty
-- if the Bought electronic is more than Rs2000, you have to pay Custom (around 17%) + fine + penalty (dont know how much)
-- If the Gift item is less than Rs 10000, no need to pay custom duty.

    Any more findings ?

I think selling price of 6300 at that time was $310 something (now it is lot cheaper) + $50 shipping = $360

    +

FeDex guy collected the Custom and Duties while handling me the package which was Rs. 1550 I guess

so it was a total loss for me :( but was fun :p

just ask the seller to put some low value in the invoice and mark it as a gift - that way you can avoid paying any duties.
