Here is a topic that I've been searching but was not able to find any information on. I am an eBay seller. I started my own ecommerce site, and instead of leaving myself at the mercy of eBay and its totalitarian rules, I want to convert more of my business to my own site. My monthly eBay fees run as high as $3-5K / month. Has anyone else experimented with using same eBay budget on Adword with same or better results? The internet is a lot bigger than eBay alone, obviously. Im starting to hate all these stupid rules etc eBay has implemented, seems like they are trying to kill the small sellers.. but thats for another topic. If anyone can shed some light on this matter, it would be much appreciated. I really want to take the plunge to Adwords only, but just want to make an informed decision. I sell tangible goods on eBay, btw. High quality, small import goods, good prices, mostly around the $10-$50 range.
It will vary based on your niche, product, and conversion numbers. No one can tell you which is better for your particular case. The only way to know is to test and track one traffic source against the other. However, as you know, Adwords is a CPC medium, whereas eBay fees are based more on number of listings. Take this into consideration.
yes, i understand what you mean about the difference between the 2 advertising mediums. They are, of course, different in nature. However, I was just wandering if there are anyone else out there that has made the switch from eBay selling to selling on own website successfully, and to share some experience .. I think results will speak the loudest when you compare dollars spent on each method of advertising. Both methods cost money, and both have measurable ROI....
can't agree more... i hope more sellers join me in finding better ways to sell online and leave the ebay dictatorship all together.. instead of paying them huge fees just to get screwed in the end...
