Interesting. It's apparently very content-related, though, because I've been seeing *increases* (I don't have any financial or telecom related sites).

I agree. When one sector goes up, another goes down, and vice versa.

I find it interesting though, that there are now news reports on this sort of thing.

I operate Online Pharmacy campaigns on Yahoo and Overture. Overture has seen a pretty average cost per click lately.

    HOWEVER...

Something is definitely going on with Google. Since they changed their bid system to active/inactive, the CPC has jumped up to 800% on a lot of keywords. Where I was once paying 50 cents a click, It's up to $5.00 or more.

    Plunging, my eye.

Depending on your industry, I guess your milage may vary.

I'd guess that consumer-shopping keywords are going up right now because of the approach of Christmas. It will be interesting to see if that reverses in January.

I'm finding a lot of flucuation in bid prices with Google's Adwords. I'm at a loss to work out their pricing methodology. I guess, though, results are the name of the game and revenue is increasing. I believe Google is balancing the art of achieveing returns for the advertiser while growing their own revenues.

I believe that it is an auction process, where the advertisers determine the pricing, not Google.

I've saw one client put an automated increase on Google. When I arrived from Miami to take over - they had burned thru $40K in 3 months with NO sales or conversions. Their ppc click rate was up to $30 per click!!!!!!

elvis, that's extremely odd, maybe Google is having some internal problems!

I had my suspecions that it may have been an inside job. Here's the scenerio: Set up your ppc very high on some very obscure words in the industry you are operating - create a number of content sites for your type of traffic. The ads appear at the top. Click thru the daily budget. Get paid for the advertising.
